Model Making Competition

Overview: In October 2019, MLT club organized Model Making Competitions for nurturing the creative talent and innovative mindset of the students. The whole competition took place on 18th October. Various topics given to students included: Stages of metastatic cancer, Haemopoiesis etc. MLT students from all the three semester participated in this competition. Top three winners declared by the judges panel were: 1st position Mr Rajat from 3rd Semester, 2nd position Ms. Sangam from 3rd Semester and 3rd position Ms Tannu Priya, 5th Semester. There are a lot of things for students to learn outside the confines of a textbook; events like these help them explore such avenues and learn through science-fun. We need to encourage more events that have immersive learning and enhance scientific knowledge.

Health Tech

The club activity, “Health Tech 2019” was organised by ‘University Institute of Pharma Sciences (UIPS) & University Institute of Allied Health Sciences (UIAHS) on 22nd October’19 to spread awareness among the school children as a part of CUDC (Chandigarh University Diagnostic Club). The main organizing Department was Department of Medical Lab Technology (MLT) and the event was organized and supervised by the Chief coordinator, HOD (MLT) Dr. Gurjit K. Bhatti.

Chandigarh University Diagnostic Club (CUDC)

Chandigarh University Diagnostic Club (CUDC) under the aegis of the Department of Medical Laboratory Technology successfully organized a Medical Check-up Camp on the occasion of Tech Fest at Chandigarh University. During the camp, the students of CUDC performed various diagnostic tests such as Blood Grouping, Blood Pressure, HB, Body Temperature, BMR, Blood Glucose, Pulse Rate, RBC Count, WBC Count, Viral Tests, and ESR.

Primary Health Center in Village Batta

This camp was organized at the Primary Health Center in Village Batta, S.A.S. Mohali in which our MLT students performed various tests, namely Blood Grouping, Blood Pressure, HB, etc. on native people.

On the occasion of Women’s Day, CUDC organized a Medical Check-up Camp for women within the University campus. MLT students examined the female staff and faculty in the campus and performed various diagnostic tests such as Blood Grouping, Blood Pressure, HB and more.

Dr. Pankaj Kaul gave an informative session in which he explained that aging population is expected to lead to a greater need to diagnose medical conditions, due to which Medical Lab Technology will be emerging in the near future as well.

Mr. AP Chauhan from Department of Haematology, PGIMER, Chandigarh gave an interactive session on Anaemia, a condition in which there is a deficiency of red cells, to the students of MLT, highlighting its cause, symptoms and preventive measures.

Mr. AP Chauhan from the Department of Haematology, PGIMER, Chandigarh taught the students about Leukemia. He highlighted information on what leukemia is, its symptoms, signs of leukemia, treatment options and more.

Dr. Mridula Chopra, BSc, MSc, Ph.D., PG Cert.Ed., who was an expert for the lecture informed students about future scope and prospects of the field. She also suggested students to maintain consistent energy levels to cope up with study burden and stay healthy.
