Advanced Preparation for a Secured & Bright Future.

The Industrial Design Department has formulated the Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs). The PEOs are broad statements that describe the career and professional accomplishments that the programme is preparing its graduates to achieve in four years subsequent to receiving the degree. The PEOs of the B. Design (Industrial Design) programme are as follows:

PEO-1: Technical Adeptness : To be able to choose from a number of career options available in Research & Development, Manufacturing, Self-employment/ Entrepreneurship, Design Services and consultancies and Independent Design firms.

PEO-2: Interpersonal Skills: To be able to inculcate qualities like crisp communication skills, business acumen, effective execution, imagination and to inculcate a global awareness.

PEO-3: Awareness of Social Impact: To create individuals capable of collaborating and working with other organizations or individuals as an effective team to carry out business on an international and national level.

PEO-4: Professionalism: Train individuals in a way so that they can evolve their knowledge and skills with the need of the hour, thus to ensure their professional and personal development and a sustainable career prospect.

PEO-5: Continuous learning: Train individuals of design to be able to interact and work in a multi-disciplinary environment so that the designer keeps in mind the need and want while designing.

Programme Outcomes (POs) are attributes of the graduates of the program that are indicative of the graduates’ ability and competence to work as a design professional upon graduation. Programme Outcomes are statements that describe what students are expected to know or be able to do by the time of graduation. They must relate to knowledge and skills that the students acquire from the programme. The achievement of all outcomes indicates that the student is well prepared to achieve the program educational objectives down the road. The following 12 POs have been chosen by the Department of Design (industrial Design) Chandigarh University. The B Design (industrial design) curriculum at CU has been designed to fully meet all the 12 Programme Outcomes:

PO-1: Design Knowledge: To induce a sense of design thinking in students through self-exploratory and creative practices.

PO-2: Problem Analysis: To learn and apply the knowledge of design fundamentals in best suited ways to create an impactful design for the benefit of society or a group of individuals.

PO-3: Design/Development of Solutions: Acquiring particular set of skills that can be evolved with time and also the demand of industry.

PO-4: Conduct Investigations of complex problem: Cultivating professional interaction with sects of people belonging to other disciplines and carry out the required task in the most efficient way using inputs of design research.

PO-5: Modern Tool Usage: Ability to interpreting ideas in the simplest ways that can be understood by people devoid of any basic design knowledge.

PO-6: The Designer and Society: To get the maximum learning output from the students in terms of exploration, creativity and attention to details from which society can be benefitted in numerous ways.

PO-7: Environment and Sustainability: The curriculum aims at making the students to achieve multi-tasking abilities which will be beneficial for them in future in managing multiple projects at one time.

PO-8: Ethics: To provide ample opportunities to the students to innovate and create by using design ethics and the technical knowledge acquired through the academics.

PO-9: Individual and Teamwork: The curriculum also invokes a sense of business and professional ethics while working for people belonging to a diverse culture.

PO-10: Communication: The Curriculum aims in developing the individuals to be an avid learner throughout their life and use their collective knowledge for the benefit of the society.

PO-11: Project Management and Finance: The curriculum focuses on the ability of the students to identify the given problem and provide the most accurate or efficient solution, keeping in mind the social and economic impact created by the design solution.

PO-12: Life Long Learning: The curriculum takes in account of learning the tools necessary for product development and also develops an attitude of continuous learning.

The Programme Specific Objectives (PSOs) are specific statements that describe the professional career accomplishments that the program is designed. The PSOs of the B. Design program (Industrial Design) program are as follows:

PSO-1: Understanding the basics of sketching, drawing, materials and forms related with industrial design.

PSO-2: Knowledge of Industrial design process, design research and implementation in form of design aesthetics, form and function, ergonomics and prototyping skills involved in various branches of Industrial design like furniture, transportation, product, UI/UX etc.

PSO-3: Hands on skills in various digital sculpting software along with 3D rendering techniques and product presentations.

PSO-4: Successful handling of individual Design Projects focusing to solve existing problems as reported by design industry/ society along with the scope of innovations and benchmarking.
