What is Cognitive Science?
Cognitive science is the scientific study of cognitive phenomena such as reasoning, decision making, memory, learning, language, perception, and action in intelligent systems like human brain, animal brain and artificial intelligence.
After the Industrial and Information technology revolutions, humans have been able to understand and alter the planetary environment according to their needs and desires. This geological age has been termed as Anthropocene age. The next revolution that began in the 1950s, termed as Cognitive revolution is currently underway and has led to the development of a new field called as Cognitive Sciences. The cognitive revolution has been conceptualized as “humanity’s most ambitious intellectual enterprise: to understand ourselves”. The aim of cognitive sciences is to understand, modify and create intelligent systems like human brain/cognition, animal brain/cognition, and machines/artificial intelligence. Cognitive science is a truly interdisciplinary field that encompasses the traditional disciplines of psychology, computer science, robotics, neuroscience, linguistics, anthropology, economics, physics, and philosophy.
