About UILS

The University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS) at Chandigarh University, is among the top law institutes in North India. About International Moot Court Competition

The International Moot Court Competition on Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property Rights is a premier academic event designed to provide law students with a unique platform to engage with some of the most pressing legal challenges of the digital age. As artificial intelligence continues to transform industries, economies, and societies, it has simultaneously raised complex questions concerning ownership, innovation, accountability, creativity, and the future of intellectual property law.

The competition aims to bring together talented law students, researchers, academicians, and legal professionals from across the globe. Through simulated judicial proceedings, participants will develop practical advocacy skills while engaging with cutting-edge legal questions that are increasingly shaping national and international legal frameworks.

Objectives of the Competition

The moot proposition has been carefully crafted to reflect real-world disputes arising at the intersection of technology and law. Teams will be expected to prepare comprehensive memorials, undertake extensive legal research, and present persuasive oral arguments before distinguished judges.

We invite law students, academicians, and professionals to join the International Moot Court Competition 2026 and engage with the global legal community through this enriching experience.

Eligibility

Open to students pursuing 3-Year LL.B. and 5-Year Integrated Law Programs from recognised institutions.
Each institution may register one/two teams.
Each team shall comprise two speakers and one researcher (or as per rules).

Structure

Competition Format

The competition will be conducted through multiple rounds:

Preliminary Rounds
Quarter-Finals
Semi-Finals
Final Round

Approximately 60 teams from India and abroad are expected to participate, making it a truly international academic event. The Competition welcomes participation from law schools across the globe, providing an international platform for cross-cultural academic exchange and collaborative engagement on emerging legal issues.

Moot Memorial Guidelines

Prepare Memorials for Both Sides

Each team must submit memorials on behalf of both the petitioner/appellant and the respondent.

Follow Prescribed Structure

The memorial shall contain: Cover Page, Table of Contents, List of Abbreviations, Index of Authorities, Statement of Jurisdiction, Statement of Facts, Issues Raised, Summary of Arguments, Arguments Advanced, Prayer.

Formatting Requirements

Use A4-size paper, Times New Roman, font size 12 for text, and 10 for footnotes, 1.5 line spacing, and justified alignment.

Cover Page Colours

Use a blue cover page for the petitioner/appellant memorial and a red cover page for the respondent memorial.

Citation Method

Memorials must follow a uniform citation style, such as the latest edition of Bluebook or OSCOLA, throughout the document.

Quality of Legal Research

Arguments should be supported by statutory provisions, judicial precedents, international instruments, scholarly writings, and comparative legal authorities.

Submission Requirements

Memorials must be submitted within the prescribed deadline in the specified format (PDF/Word), using only the allotted Team Code and complying with all competition rules.
