General Hostel Rules

    1. Hostel session runs from 1st July to 30th June every year.
    2. Biometric attendance mandatory between 8:00 PM – 9:00 PM daily.
    3. Return before 7:30 PM (summer) / 6:30 PM (winter). Latecomers must register.
    4. Outstation travel allowed only with prior approval from authorities.
    5. Permission required for celebrations; to be held in mess area between 6–8 PM.
    6. Always carry university ID when outside campus.
    7. Visitors allowed only in designated lobby areas.
    8. Keep rooms and surroundings clean; avoid drying clothes in corridors.
    9. Keep valuables secured; students are responsible for their belongings.
    10. Damage to property is chargeable; collective fine may be imposed.
    11. Serious violations like theft, ragging or substance use lead to expulsion.
    12. Room re-allotment if occupancy drops (e.g., 4-seater to 2 occupants).
    13. Room usage during university hours requires medical approval.
    14. Self-medication not allowed; all prescriptions must be declared.
    15. Inform warden of any change in address or contact info.
    16. Day scholars and non-residents not allowed in hostel premises.
    17. No student is allowed to form or incite against the university.
    18. Authorities may conduct surprise checks at any time.
    19. Disrespect or aggression towards peers or staff is prohibited.
    20. Report mess/hostel complaints to warden; suggestions welcomed.
    21. Mess utensils must remain in mess; pets are not allowed.
    22. Personal vehicles are not allowed in hostel premises.
    23. Mess charge exemption during full-semester internships/training.
    24. Room changes only through formal approval with valid reason.
    25. No posters/photos on walls or cupboards.
    26. Conserve electricity by switching off lights/fans when not in use.
    27. Do not interfere with hostel staff; report issues formally.
    28. Ignorance of rules is not an excuse for violations.
    29. Belongings must be removed within 24 hrs of exams ending.
    30. CU is not liable for incidents outside without official permission.
    31. Strictly avoid inappropriate behavior, assault or damage.
    32. No bathroom slippers in the mess area.
    33. Lights off after 11:00 PM; friends not allowed without permission.
    34. Day/night-out allowed only after 9:00 PM, not during attendance time.

Leave Rules

  1. A hosteller can avail a day leave from 8:00 am to 7:30 pm (Holiday) during summers, 8:00 am to 6:30 pm during winter.
  2. Day leave during the five working days can be taken with due permission of the concerned HOD.
  3. During weekends/holidays, permission from the warden is sufficient.
  4. Night out leave is given to the hostellers when they wish to go home to see their parents or local guardian after permission from parents.
  5. Student can leave the campus only with the prior permission taken from their warden in writing. Students have to show the same permission at the gate before leaving.
  6. Students should get their leave booklet signed by their warden at least one night before. On return, it is mandatory to get it signed by their parents and at the university gate.
  7. No residents are permitted to leave the hostel after 6:00 pm. In case of emergency, parents or local guardians may pick them up with prior permission of the Senior Warden.

Note: If a student does not report back after the allotted period of leave, her room allotment will be canceled.

Study Room Rules

  • Using mobile phones inside the study room is strictly prohibited.
  • Students are not supposed to create any nuisance for others in the study room.
  • Before coming or leaving the study room, making an entry in the register is mandatory.
  • Students should switch off the fans and tube lights before leaving the study room.

Hostel Leaving Procedure

If a student does not want to continue the hostel facility at the end of the academic session, she must fill a discontinuation form and submit it to the respective warden after parents’ consent.

Checklist: Documents to Attach (Photocopy)
  • Photocopy of University & Hostel Fee Receipt issued by Accounts Office.
  • 4 passport-size photographs of the student, parents, and 2 copies each of visitors and local guardian.
  • Photocopy of marriage certificate (for married students).
  • Photocopy of ID proof of parents and local guardian.
  • Medical documents, in case of health issues (if applicable).

Note: Candidates must be accompanied by their Parents/Local Guardians at the time of admission. For a local guardian, an authentic authorization from the parents is required. In no case shall the local guardian be a student.

Visitor Guidelines

Visitor Timings
  • Weekdays: 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
  • Weekends: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • No visitors allowed during exam periods
  • Prior permission required for extended visits
Visitor Registration
  • All visitors must register at reception
  • Valid ID proof mandatory
  • Visitor pass to be displayed at all times
  • Resident responsible for visitor’s conduct
Permitted Visitors
  • Parents and immediate family members
  • Female friends and relatives
  • Male visitors in designated areas only (with permission)
  • University faculty and staff
Visitor Guidelines
  • Visitors not allowed in residential floors
  • Meetings limited to lobby and visitor rooms
  • Max 2 visitors per resident at a time
  • Overnight stays not allowed

Safety & Security

Personal Safety
  • Always carry hostel ID card
  • Do not share room keys or access cards
  • Lock rooms when leaving
  • Report suspicious activities immediately
Fire Safety
  • Familiarize yourself with emergency exits
  • Do not tamper with fire safety equipment
  • No candles or open flames in rooms
  • Participate in fire drill exercises
Health & Hygiene
  • Maintain personal hygiene standards
  • Report illness to warden immediately
  • Use designated areas for laundry
  • Dispose of waste in designated bins
Emergency Procedures
  • Emergency contact numbers displayed prominently
  • First aid kit available in Medical Room of every Hostel
  • Medical emergencies: Contact warden immediately
  • Fire/Natural disasters: Follow evacuation plan

Miscellaneous Rules

Fees & Payments
  • Hostel fees to be paid by due date
  • Late payment charges applicable
  • No refund for early vacation
  • Damage charges deducted from security deposit
Room Allocation & Changes
  • Room change only with valid reason once in a year
  • Written application required for room change
  • Administrative charges for voluntary changes
  • Vacate room within 48 hours of notice
Disciplinary Actions
  • Warning for first-time minor violations
  • Fine for repeated violations
  • Suspension for serious misconduct
  • Permanent rustication for major violations
Complaint & Grievance
  • Submit complaints in Cuims Portal
  • Hostel committee meetings monthly
  • Anonymous suggestion box available
  • Escalation process for unresolved issues

List of Items Required at the Time of Joining

Bedding: One mattress, two bed sheets, one pillow and two pillow covers, one quilt, one blanket. Bed sheets should be for a standard size single bed in university hostel rooms. (Mattress and pillow will also be available in tuck shops for purchase).

All residents are expected to read and follow these rules. Violation of rules may result in disciplinary action including suspension or termination of hostel accommodation.
