Women Development Cell – Chandigarh University

Established in 2023 | Empowering Women, Ensuring Equality

The Women Development Cell (WDC) at Chandigarh University, established in 2023, functions in alignment with the guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), and the Supreme Court’s Vishaka Guidelines (1997). The cell is committed to upholding the dignity, rights, and safety of all women across the university campus — ensuring a secure, inclusive, and respectful environment for both students and staff.

The WDC plays a pivotal role in creating a campus culture where gender equality thrives, and women are empowered to reach their full potential academically, professionally, and socially. It acts as a guardian of gender equality.

Vision

To create a gender-neutral environment that facilitates independence, safety, well-being, and dignity of women, empowering them with rights and equitable opportunities ensuring enrichment of their future. Moulding and enlightening the young minds and pave their way to grow into balanced and better human beings.

Policy Statement

The WDC is constituted in compliance with UGC guidelines to create an inclusive environment focused on the growth and empowerment of women. Through training, knowledge-sharing, and self-worth enhancement, the cell aims to help women determine their choices and influence social change.

The cell fosters women's potential and enriches organizational and social life.

Scope

This policy applies to all female students, employees, and women within the jurisdiction of Chandigarh University, Gharuan Campus.

Functions

  • Organize empowerment workshops and seminars inside and outside campus.
  • Spread awareness on health, finance, fitness, and investment for women.
  • Support POSH implementation by collaborating with CPSH (Internal Complaints Committee).
  • Monitor POSH Act compliance and assist with complaint redressal and inquiry.
  • Collaborate with Punjab government bodies like SRCW, WEDC, and Women & Child Development.
  • Partner with national NGOs and stakeholders for women's development.
  • Document and report WDC activities regularly to the university.
  • Ensure all public spaces are monitored via CCTV for safety.
  • Conduct regular self-defense training programs.
  • Run gender sensitization contests, seminars, and exhibitions.
  • Empower women to be leaders and entrepreneurs.
  • Organize health camps addressing PCOD, menstrual hygiene, breast cancer, etc.
  • Encourage education and scholarships for disadvantaged or disabled women.

Safe Campus Environment

No dark zones near libraries, parks, and hostels to ensure women's safety.

Childcare & Crèche Access

Provide affordable childcare facilities and crèches for working and studying women.

Infrastructure & Sanitation

Upgrade infrastructure to support women staff and students with clean and safe amenities.
