Post Graduate Scholarship for Professional Courses for SC/ST

Introduction

The scheme has been initiated keeping in view the social background of the candidates from the deprived section of the society and to provide them opportunity to undertake postgraduate level studies in Professional subjects like Engineering & Technology, Management, Pharmacy etc. in Indian Universities/Institutions/ Colleges.

Objective

The objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to 1000 SC/ST candidates to pursue postgraduate level studies in Professional subjects in the eligible institutions as given below.

Eligibility

For the purpose of award of the scholarship students who are pursuing professional courses in the following Institutions/ Colleges/Universities:

  • Universities/Institutions/Colleges included under section 2(f) & and 12(B) of UGCAct.
  • Deemed to be Universities included under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 and eligible to receive grants-in-aid fromUGC
  • Universities/Institutions/College funded by Central/StateGovernment.
  • Institutes of National Importance.

Courses which require approval from Regulatory Council i.e. Medical Council of India (MCI), Dental Council of India (DCI), Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), NCTIS, NCTE Bar council of India (BCI), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), INC, FORENSIC REGULATORY & DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY OF INDIA are considered professional courses.


Note 1: M.A., M.Sc., M.Com., MSW and Mass Communication and Journalism degree are accepted as “Non-professional courses”:

Note 2: Candidates pursuing post graduate course in professional subjectsthroughcorrespondence or in Distance Education mode are not eligible to receive financial assistance under this scheme.

Procedure for applying for the Scheme

  • The candidates fulfilling the eligibility conditions are required to apply online on National Scholarship Portal after issue of advertisement to be published by the UGC once in a year through leading newspaper and Employment News and also on UGC website.
  • The host institution where the candidate is studying is required to verify the online application.

Aadhaar Seeding

The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India vide its letter D.O. No. 18-7/2013-U1A dated 10th June, 2016 has instructed the University Grants Commission that from the financial year 2016-17 onwards the Aadhaar will be used as an identifier for disbursement of all Government subsidies/ Scholarships/Fellowships which are to be disbursed directly into the beneficiary’s account.

The Aadhaar details would be updated by the student through the host University/ Institute/ College after seeking a consent from the awardee as per provisions of the Aadhaar Act, 2016.

Nature of Assistance available under the Scheme

  • The tenure of award is for two/three years depending upon tenure of the postgraduate course and not for extended period of study, ifany.
  • Candidates selected for the award of PG scholarships (under ME/MTech.) shall be provided Scholarship @ Rs.7800/-per month for the duration of the PG Scholarship. For other courses, the amount of scholarship will be paid @Rs.4500/- per month.
  • No contingency is payable to the students selected under the scheme with effect from selection year 2017-18.
  • The scholarship shall be payable to the awardee from the date of joining the Post Graduate I year course during the selection year.
  • The University/ Institute/ College should verify the application of the candidates with regard to the professional courses as provided in the guidelines.

Procedure for release of grant by the UGC

  • After selection, the awardees will be paid scholarship on DBT mode
  • The list of awardees will be pushed to Public Financial Management System (PFMS) by the NIC.
  • PFMS will generate payment files of the awardees and scholarship would be paid for the complete duration of the post graduate course.

Renewals

  • Scholarship granted under the scheme will be kept renewed during the period of first year post graduate course subject to good conduct and maintenance of prescribed attendance.
  • The scholarship will be renewed for the next year of study on receipt of an annual progress report to be granted by the administrative head of the University/ Institution/ College.(E.g. Registrar of a University/ Director of the Institution/ Principal of the College or any other officer designated by them).
  • Students failing to get promoted to the next class/ level would forfeit the scholarship.
  • Change in course of study will not be permitted.
  • Scheme will be implemented and monitored by the UGC.
  • The awardees of previous years will continue to follow the UGC pattern of assistance through the designated bank branches of Canara Bank.

Cancellation of Award

Scholarship of a student may be cancelled in any of the following cases :-

  • Failure of the awardee to pass the first year of Post Graduate course in first division or equivalent CGPAscore.
  • Discontinuation of studies due to personal reasons.
  • Candidate is later found ineligible on account of false information provided in the online application or incorrect bank details

Kalpana Chawla Scholarship for Girls (Belonging to Economical Weaker Section of Chandigarh)

Kalpana Chawla Scholarship will be provided to only ten girls students belonging to economical weaker section of Chandigarh and who have completed 10+2 from Chandigarh and are willing for studying the course of their choice at Chandigarh University on first come first serve basis. 10% scholarship on the total fee will be offered to the students every year. The total amount of Scholarship under this scheme would amounts to total Rs. 10 Lakh per year.

  • Income Criteria: - Family Income less than Rs. 3 Lac per annum
  • Total Number of Scholarships: - 10 per Year (First Come First Serve)
  • Quantum of Scholarship: - 10% of the Academic fee in any course of choice. Valid for the entire duration of the course.

Condition for continuation of above Concession Scheme

For renewal of scholarship, it is mandatory that the students admitted under all the above schemes shall not have any Semester/Year drop (In case of Pharma. D. Program) and NO “E”, “F”, “I” or “Not Qualified” grades in regular semester/Year exam in first chance failing which the concession shall be discontinued.

Shaheed Captain Vikram Batra Scholarship for the wards of Kargil War Heroes

Shaheed Captain Vikram Batra Scholarship will be provided to the wards of Kargil War Heroes. The following conditions will be applicable:

  • 20 Seats would be reserved for Kargil Martyrs for 3 Years in Chandigarh University
  • 15% Academic Fee Waiver for the Wards of Kargil Martyrs.
  • 10% Academic Fee Waiver for the Wards of Defense Personals who were injured in Kargil.
  • The Fee Waiver would be applicable for the entire Course Duration.
  • The Total Amount of Scholarship under this scheme would be Rs. 25 Lakh

Condition for continuation of above Concession Scheme

For renewal of scholarship, it is mandatory that the students admitted under all the above schemes shall not have any Semester/Year drop (In case of Pharma. D. Program) and NO “E”, “F”, “I” or “Not Qualified” grades in regular semester/Year exam in first chance failing which the concession shall be discontinued.

Scholarship for Meritorious Students of Ladakh

Students from Ladakh who have passed Senior-Secondary and have scored more than 80 % marks from any CBSE affiliated Board or College would be eligible for this scholarship for their higher education at Chandigarh University, Gharuan. Scholarship worth Rs. 1.5 Crore will be covered under this Scheme.

  • Students who have scored in between 80-85% will be eligible for 25% scholarship in their admission to higher studies at Chandigarh University.
  • Students who have scored in between 85.1-90% will be eligible for 35% scholarship in their admission to higher studies at Chandigarh University.
  • Students who have scored more than 90% will be eligible for 50% scholarship in their admission to their higher studies at Chandigarh University.
  • Maximum Seats would be 25 per Year.

Condition for continuation of above (3) Merit Based Scholarship schemes

For renewal of scholarship it is mandatory that the students admitted under all the above schemes shall have to maintain a minimum of 7.5 CGPA in regular semester exam (Year in case of Pharma D. Program) in first chance without any semester/Year drop in case of Pharma. D Program (with NO “E”, “F”, “I” or “Not Qualified” grades) failing which the scholarship shall be discontinued.

Merit Scholarship Schemes for the Academic Session 2024-2025

A) For Engineering Courses Scholarship based on JEE-Mains (All India Rank) Maximum 5% of total intake seats in each Course shall be offered under the scheme.

F.) Teaching Assistant Option for M.Sc. and ME Students with Stipend of Rs.5000 to Rs.8000/- per month subject to maximum 10 months in an year.

G.) Scholarship for Students Who Have Participated in National Children Science Congress

  • Top 10 award winners of NCSC every year will be given 100% fee waiver if they take admission in any UG course in Chandigarh University.
  • All Students who have participated in NCSC will be given 10% fee waiver if they take admission in any UG course in Chandigarh University.

H.) NATA/ JEE (Main) Score Based Scholarship

In order to encourage meritorious students to get admission in B.Arch. program, the University has introduced a new scholarship scheme i.e. “Architecture Scholarship on the basis of NATA/ JEE (Main) Score” for the students admitted during the Academic Session 2024-25. In this scheme, the University will provide following scholarship on the Academic Fees on the following terms and conditions:

I.) CGPA Based Scholarship

10% of scholarship will be given to the students with 9.0 or above CGPA score if the student is not availing any other scholarship.

J.) Scholarship for Meritorious Students of Ladakh:

Other Concessions for the Academic Year 2024-2025

A.) Old Student Concession Policy to Promote Higher Education:-

The students of entire CGC group, who seek admission in Chandigarh University after qualifying degree /diploma will be provided scholarship equivalent to 10% of yearly fee for entire duration of the course.

B) Single Girl Child Concession:-

The Chandigarh University provides 10% concession on yearly fee to single girl child for entire duration of the course.

C) Teacher’s Ward Concession:-

The Chandigarh University provides 10% concession on yearly fee to the wards of teachers for entire duration of the course (Teachers of Govt. / Govt. recognized schools/ colleges/ universities) provided a teacher should have at least one-year regular service. Maximum 5% of total seats in each course shall be offered under this scheme.

D) Sibling Concession:-

The University offers 10% concession on yearly fee to one of the siblings studying in any institute of Chandigarh University, till the time both the siblings are studying in the university. The concession will be allowed to continue even after the passing out of one sibling.

E) Concession to Girl Sibling: -

The Chandigarh University provides 10% concession on yearly fee to both female siblings for entire duration of the course. The concession will be allowed to continue even after the passing out of one sibling.

F) Concession under Armed Forces Educational Welfare Scheme (AFEWS) for Wards/Spouse of Defence Personnel’s.

As a gesture of appreciation and salutation to our Defence Forces who are always there to protect our borders and our lives, Chandigarh University has devised a Reservation cum Fee Waiver Scheme for Defence Personnel, wards and their spouse. This scheme is also a part of our social responsibility towards special sections of our society.

AFEWS is a unique scheme for reserving seats in all courses for the wards and spouse of Indian Defence Personnel of different categories. Wards and spouse of different categories of Defence personnel admitted under the above scheme will also be given benefit of freeship in prescribed semester fee.

5% seats in all courses of Chandigarh University shall be reserved for the wards and spouses of Defence Martyrs and their immediate dependent members.

All Defence Personnel serving and retired, their spouse and wards in the following manner.

PRIORITY IN RESERVATION

Order of priority under the scheme: -

  • War widows and wards of war causalities.
  • War injured and released defence personnel, spouses and their wards.
  • War disabled defence personnel, getting super-annuated, spouses and their wards.
  • Wards of serving defence personnel.
  • Wards of retired defence personnel.

DETAILS OF CONCESSION

Concession shall be as follows: -

  • Concession equivalent to 15% of yearly fee for the war widows and wards of war causalities, war injured and released defence personnel, spouse and their wards, war disabled defence personnel, getting super-annuated, spouse and their wards.
  • Concession equivalent to 10% of yearly fee for the wards/Spouse of serving and retired defence personnel.
  • Concession equivalent to 10% of yearly fee for the wards/Spouse of paramilitary forces personnel.

Officers on Study Leave

Defence officers in service who want to take up the courses during their study leave will be separately offered 1% seats subject to minimum of 1 seat in each course. Concession will be given equivalent to 20% Semester fee.

G) Concession for Chandigarh University Staff

The Wards/Spouse and real brother/sisters of Only Chandigarh University staff’s having at least one-year regular service will be offered 50% concession in academic fees. It will continue till the staff member is working with the Chandigarh University.

H) Orphan Concession: -

  • 20% of concession will be given in case of Orphan Candidate.
  • 10% of concession will be given in case of Single Parent.

I) Early bird scholarship:-

Early bird scholarship to the Master of Engineering Programs as per following conditions:

  • 15 (Fifteen) percent scholarship to be given to the students who have completed Bachelors of Engineering from Chandigarh University, provided they pay full semester fee at the time of admission
  • 10 (Ten) percent scholarship to be given to the students who have completed Bachelors of Engineering/Technology from other recognized Universities/Institutes.

J) Alumni Scholarship:-

10% concession will also be allowed to the real brother/ sister/spouse/Wards of the alumni student of this university.

K) Gyan Kashi Scholarship policy for Varanasi Students:-

Scholarship proposed for Sikh Community students in Varanasi for 5 years’ worth Rs. 64.56 Crores for first 250 student’s intake (2023-2027).

Eligibility for Scholarship: -

  • The Sikh community students of Varanasi who have passed Senior-Secondary from any state or central recognized board will be eligible to avail this scholarship for encouraging them for higher education at Chandigarh University, Gharuan Distt S.A.S Nagar (Pb).
  • All Sikh community students who have passed Graduation from any state or central recognized University will be eligible to avail this scholarship for their higher education at Chandigarh University, Mohali.

Criteria for availing the Scholarship for availing scholarship mentioned in Point

  • Family income shall not exceed Rs. 5,00,000 per annum and a valid income certificate from competent authority of the area to be annexed with application for admission.
  • Scholarship of 50% will be allowed up to 250 students on first come first served basis
  • For the continuation of scholarship in next year, policies of Chandigarh University shall be adhered to.
  • Students must have valid address and ID proof of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
  • Scholarship will be applicable on academic fees only.
  • Scholarship for student taking admission in 2027 will be continued up to completion of the course.

Scholarship Scheme for Wards of Defence Personnel for the Academic Year 2024-2025

Armed Forces Educational Welfare Scheme (AFEWS)

Concession under Armed Forces Educational Welfare Scheme (AFEWS) for Wards/Spouse of Defence Personnel’s.

As a gesture of appreciation and salutation to our Defence Forces who are always there to protect our borders and our lives, Chandigarh University has devised a Reservation cum Fee Waiver Scheme for Defence Personnel, wards and their spouse. This scheme is also a part of our social responsibility towards special sections of our society.

AFEWS is a unique scheme for reserving seats in all courses for the wards and spouse of Indian Defence Personnel of different categories. Wards and spouse of different categories of Defence personnel admitted under the above scheme will also be given benefit of freeship in prescribed semester fee.

5% seats in all courses of Chandigarh University shall be reserved for the wards and spouses of Defence Martyrs and their immediate dependent members.

Procedure for Monthly Diet

  • Monthly diet will be provided for Six months (Minimum) to Eight months (maximum).
  • Monthly diet will be provided for those Games, which are valid for MAKA Trophy.

Special Chance for Potential Players:

  • Special case will only be provided to potential players of the games, In which, time, height and distance can be measured:
    Special case will be recommended for team games by the Sports Selection Committee. The team game should be considerable in MAKA Trophy.
    - Monthly Diet will not be provided in Special case.
    - Academic Fee Concession will be given for one year only.
    - Free Hostel and free food facility for one year.
    - If student didn’t win the medal in one year, minimum at AIIU/National level, he will pay the entire academic fee, Hostel Fee from next year.

Terms and Conditions:

  • If a student (International Medalist) takes admission in other courses than B.A., B.P.Ed and P.G.Yoga, then concession will remain the same as ‘O’ category.
  • If Non-Scholarship C.U. Student got Medal in International / National / AIIU, he/she will be eligible for Sports Scholarship according to level of performance and category.
  • Only vacant seats will be filled in each game/every year.
  • Only last two-year performance Certificates will be considered.
  • Academic Fee Concession includes Uniform fee, Examination fee, Security fee, C.U. fest fee and fresher party fee. For ‘O’ and ‘A’ Category.
  • Minimum 90% attendance is must for continuation of monthly diet.
  • Following Team games will be considered:
    Football, Cricket, Volleyball, Basketball, American Football, Rugby, Tug of War, Kabaddi, Baseball, Softball, Hockey, Tennis, Badminton, Table Tennis and Handball.
  • Preference will be given to the Individual games.
  • On the basis of performance/ achievements the concession is revised every year, as:
    Concession will be revised after one year according to level of performance/achievement. If any player will not get any position in International/ National/AIIU tournaments his/her Monthly Diet will be discontinued in Second year and if he/she did not get position in second year his/her Sports scholarship will also be withdrawn in 3rd year.
    Concession will be increased or decreased according to performance/achievement at the time of renewal. Minimum North Zone Inter University medal will be considered for renewal of scholarship; state medal will not be considered.
  • If student takes general admission and he has achieved medal in North Zone/ All India Inter University/ National/ International, he will be provided the scholarship benefit in the next following year, according to the level of achievement as per category.
  • Attendance will be provided to students, who will participate in North Zone/AIIU/National/International Competition from the date of departure to date of return at C.U.
  • Training camp attendance of Players inside and outside campus will be taken regularly. Minimum camp attendance of each player should be 90%.
  • University has the right to change terms and conditions of the C.U. Sports policy anytime without any prior notice.

Selection procedure for Sports Quota admission will be done by the Sports Committee:

  • Performance Trials will be taken before admission.
  • Original certificates are required for verification.
  • Gradation will be required in doubtful cases.
  • Final decision for admission will be taken by Director Students Welfare.

Discontinuation of scholarship and incentives:

  • If Student is not fulfilling AIIU eligibilities.
  • If the student misbehaves with any faculty member/Staff/ Student.
  • If the student indulges in any indiscipline activity.
  • If the student doesn’t participate in North Zone/All India Inter University due to any reason.
  • If attendance will be lesser than 90% in the training camps (Inside and outside the campus).
  • If a player is found positive in doping test during any competition/trials.
  • If a player indulged in criminal activities, he/she can be terminated from the University.

Architecture Scholarship on the Basis of Nata/jee (Main) Score

NATA/ JEE (Main) Score Based Scholarship

In order to encourage meritorious students to get admission in B.Arch. program, the University has introduced a new scholarship scheme i.e. “Architecture Scholarship on the basis of NATA/ JEE (Main) Score” for the students admitted during the Academic Session 2024-25. In this scheme, the University will provide following scholarship on the Academic Fees on the following terms and conditions:

NATA Score More than 150 40% of Academic Fee
JEE (Main) Paper II percentile equal to more than 90
NATA Score from 120.1 - 150 30% of Academic Fee
JEE (Main) percentile equal to or more than 85 but less than 90
NATA Score from 100 - 120 20% of Academic Fee
JEE (Main) percentile equal to more than 80 but less than 85
NATA Score from 90-99.99 10% of Academic Fee

Condition for continuation of NATA/ JEE (Main) Score Based Scholarship:-

For renewal of scholarship it is mandatory that the students admitted under all the above schemes shall have to maintain a minimum of 7.5 CGPA in regular semester exam (Year in case of Pharma D. Program) in first chance without any semester/Year drop in case of Pharma. D Program (with NO “E”, “F”, “I” or “Not Qualified” grades) failing which the scholarship shall be discontinued.

Scholarship for Chandigarh University Staff for Session 2024-2025

Concession for Chandigarh University Staff

The Wards/Spouse and real brother/sisters of Only Chandigarh University staff’s having at least one-year regular service will be offered 50% concession in academic fees. It will continue till the staff member is working with the Chandigarh University.

Condition for continuation:

For renewal of scholarship it is mandatory that the students admitted under all the above schemes shall not have any Semester/Year drop (In case of Pharma. D. Program) and NO “E”, “F”, “I” or “Not Qualified” grades in regular semester/Year exam in first chance failing which the concession shall be discontinued.

Early Bird Scholarship For PG Students For The Academic Year 2024-2025

Early bird scholarship to the Master of Engineering Programs as per following conditions:

  • 15 (Fifteen) percent scholarship to be given to the students who have completed Bachelors of Engineering from Chandigarh University, provided they pay full semester fee at the time of admission
  • 10 (Ten) percent scholarship to be given to the students who have completed Bachelors of Engineering/Technology from other recognized Universities/Institutes.

Condition for continuation of Early Bird Concession Schemes:

For renewal of scholarship it is mandatory that the students admitted under all the above schemes shall not have any Semester/Year drop (In case of Pharma. D. Program) and NO “E”, “F”, “I” or “Not Qualified” grades in regular semester/Year exam in first chance failing which the concession shall be discontinued.

Teaching Assistant Stipend

Teaching Assistant Option for M.Sc. and ME Students with Stipend of Rs.5000 to Rs.8000/- per month subject to maximum 10 months in an year.

Condition for continuation of Teaching Assistant Stipend Scholarship:-

For renewal of scholarship it is mandatory that the students admitted under all the above schemes shall have to maintain a minimum of 7.5 CGPA in regular semester exam (Year in case of Pharma D.
