Advanced Preparation for a Secured & Bright Future.

The Division of Optometry faculty members have formulated the Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs), which are broad statements that describe the parameters of career and professional accomplishments that the program prepares its graduates to achieve in a few years (for example, four years in optometry), subsequently receiving the degree.

The PEOs of the Bachelor of Optometry Program are as follows:

PEO-1: The student will be able to provide comprehensive eye examination and diagnose ocular conditions including refractive errors, binocular vision anomalies, and various ocular pathologies.

PEO-2: The student will be able to prescribe and dispense spectacle and contact lens prescriptions for refractive correction, manage non-strabismic binocular vision anomalies, and provide advice on eye safety wear for various occupations.

PEO-3: The student will have knowledge and skills for early detection and referral of various ocular pathologies such as cataract, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and other ocular conditions.

Programme Outcomes (POs) are the attributes of the graduates of the programme that are indicative of the graduates’ ability and competence to work as an health professional upon subsequently receiving the degree. Program Outcomes are statements that describe what students are expected to know or be able to do by the time of graduation. They must be related to knowledge and skills that the students acquire from the programme. The achievement of all outcomes indicates that the student is well prepared to achieve the program educational objectives during the passage of graduation.

The following 17 POs have been chosen by the Division of Optometry of Chandigarh University. The Bachelor of Optometry curriculum at CU has been designed to meet the entire 17 Programme outcomes fully.

PO-1: Disciplinary Knowledge: Graduates will have in-depth knowledge of optometry and its sub-disciplines.

PO-2: Complex Problem-Solving: Graduates will be able to analyze and solve complex problems related to optometry and eye health.

PO-3: Critical Thinking: Graduates will be able to evaluate information critically and make informed decisions.

PO-4: Creativity: Graduates will be able to develop innovative solutions to problems related to eye health.

PO-5: Communication Skills: Graduates will be able to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.

PO-6: Analytical Reasoning/Thinking: Graduates will be able to analyze and interpret data related to eye health.

PO-7: Research Skills: Graduates will be able to conduct research and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in optometry.

PO-8 : Collaboration: Graduates will be able to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and collaborate with other healthcare professionals.

PO-9 : Leadership Readiness: Graduates will be prepared to assume leadership roles in the optometry profession.

PO-10: Learning How to Learn Skills: Graduates will be able to acquire new knowledge and skills throughout their careers.

PO-11: Digital and Technological Skills: Graduates will be proficient in using digital and technological tools for optometry and eye health.

PO-12: Multicultural Competence: Graduates will be able to work with patients from diverse cultural backgrounds and demonstrate an inclusive spirit.

PO-13: Professional Ethics: Graduates will have a strong sense of professional ethics and values and demonstrate integrity in their practice.

PO-14: Autonomy, Responsibility, and Accountability: Graduates will take responsibility for their actions and be accountable for their decisions in their practice.

PO-15: Environmental Awareness: Graduates will be aware of the impact of optometry on the environment and take steps to minimize it.

PO-16: Community Engagement: Graduates will be actively engaged in the community and provide optometry services to underserved populations.

PO-17: Empathy: Graduates will demonstrate empathy towards their patients and provide patient-centered care.

The Programme Specific Objectives (PSOs) are specific statements that describe the professional career accomplishments that the program is designed.

The PSOs of the Bachelor of Optometry program are as follows:

PSO-1: Optometric assessment and management: The student will be able to perform all the investigative procedures in ophthalmology and provide management and rehabilitation of the visual system.

PSO-2: Optometric Specialty: The student will be able to correct refractive error and provide spectacle prescription for refractive correction and other ocular conditions. They must have adequate knowledge in manufacturing of spectacle lenses, contact lenses and low vision devices.

PSO-3: Community eye care: The student will be able to able to assess the visual demands for various occupations and match them to the visual capabilities of those working in the industry.
