Automobile Engineering Department arranged the Two Days Workshop on Service of 2 & 4 wheelers on Automotive Repair and Diagnostics. The basic purpose of the workshop was to provide free service camp to the two and four wheelers of the university vehicles and also on board diagnostics of the vehicles.

Automobile Engineering Department arranged the “Industrial Collaboration”. A delegation from MG motors visited CU and handed over the vehicle which would facilitate hands-in training and skill development for students of CU.

Expert Lecture for Automobile Engineering Students

The Automobile Engineering Department arranged the “Expert Lecture for Automobile Engineering Students” by Mr. Jaspreet Singh Baweja (CEO & Founder - Cost Masters Private Limited (Ex- Manager-Mahindra & Mahindra Swaraj Tractor Division and SML-ISUZU Ropar plant). He enlightens students on various automotive materials used in industry. He discussed about the current focus of automotive materials research group is improving the mechanical properties, especially formability, of Advanced High Strength Steels (AHSS). This objective is pursued from the perspectives of Variation of microstructure through thermo-mechanical processing and its effect on mechanical properties, in particular work hardening. Micro-structural morphology effects on damage formation. Students felt very informed about modern materials and technology used in automobile industry in current scenario.

The Automobile Engineering Department arranged the “Expert Lecture for Automobile Engineering Students on Topic of Smart Manufacturing Techniques VS Digital Manufacturing :How to Unlock Fully Automated Industrial Benefits” by Dr. Harmesh Kumar Hod of Mechanical Engineering Department UIET. He enlightens students on concepts of engineering and design, and moved on to applications of that concepts on the applications used in aerospace and automotive industry. He dealt with the concepts of research and its importance in design parameters. Further, he gave a lot of information about the factors on the concept of design and its application in design of automobile and aerospace products.

He enlightens students on Advancement of technology has been done by several approaches to combine different manufacturing processes with similar objectives of increasing material removal rate, improving surface integrity, reducing tool wear, reducing production time, and extending application areas. A combination of different processes has been called ‘Hybrid’ processes by various researchers, engineers, and industry expert. Hybrid processes open new opportunities and applications for manufacturing various components that are not able to be produced economically by processes on their own.

The latest technology of MG Motors was explored by students. The process for changing of engine oil and air filter was demonstrated to students. The Automobile Engineering Department arranged the “Expert Lecture for Automobile Engineering Students on Topic of Future of Renewable Energy Resources” by Dr. Tejinder Kumar Jindal, Associate Professor in Aerospace Engineering Department, PEC University. The speaker started his lecture, by explaining the concepts of science, engineering and design, and moved on to computational fluid dynamics in the aerospace and automotive industry. He dealt with the concepts of Navier Strokes Equation and its importance in computational fluid dynamics. Further, he gave a lot of information about the discretization of equations and its application in design of automobile and aerospace products.

Engineering Day Celebrations (Project Display)

Automobile Engineering Department celebrated Engineering Day on 28th September 2017 by arranging a project display competition among the students. In this competition students were asked to form groups of five members each and make a project based on automobiles. Automobile Engineering Students were very keen to work together as team and made automobile projects from scratch. Seven different teams were formed and after the hard work of students and staff allocated to the teams finally seven projects were made by students which were displayed on the engineering day. The judging team inspected all projects and their functioning and awards for the first, second & third best projects were given to students. The students were happy not only be receiving award for their hard work but also learnt a lot many technical things out of this competition.

Research visit to Medhaavi Automotive research Centre, Hoshiarpur

The basic purpose of the visit was to show the working of open ECU in compression ignition engine and spark ignition engines to students. Also the need and changes of Bharat stage VI pollution norms was explained to students with their effects on engine and environment. Automobile engineering department organized poster presentation contest at two levels. First at department level and second at university level. Total ten teams participated for this event and each team consisted of 2 members. All the posters were made in accordance with the theme “Role of Automobile engineering in 21st century in the developing countries”

Automobile engineering students of 5th semester won the first prize in poster making contest.

They are convenient both for students and teachers as they help students to absorb the material faster. Images are more “evocative” than words and can lay the foundation of a variety of associations. By having a poster in the classroom, you can induce the students to constant learning, even if they just look around the classroom.

Our speakers for the webinar were IIT'ans Dr. Manoj Kumar, Alumni of IIT Ropar with Dr. Gyanendra Singh Goindi, Alumni of IIT Madras & IIT Ropar and Dr. Vineet Kumar IIT Roorkee. The session was all about to motivate the students towards research and to make them aware about the different technical supports that they can get online and offline for writing a research paper efficiently. In the webinar the speakers share their vast experience with the students and other juniors and explained the different steps that one should follow to write the paper effectively and efficiently.
