Punjab heritage fest

Chandigarh University organized Punjab Youth Festival-2019 at the campus on dated 30th- January-2020.The students of 2nd & 4th semester of Biotech Engineering participated in this festival. The event was organized for two days to take out the hidden talents of the students. These types of festivals encourage the students to participate and show their talent in different events to build their confidence. Also know about our culture by participating in different cultural oriented events.

Green Diwali

Green Diwali was celebrated on 23-10-2019 by department of Biotechnology of University of engineering. Students highlighted the following message through poster for reasons to celebrate green Diwali.

• Firecrackers contain chemical compounds that are full of poisonous gases and heavy metals. Inhaling these toxins can lead to many health problems.
• Every year, there are a number of cases reported where children sustain minor to major burns while bursting crackers. Many people even lose their eyesight in accidents caused during bursting crackers.
• Cases of fire breaking out at shops and markets storing explosives are reported every year, resulting in loss of lives and property.
• The noise from the firecrackers leave babies, toddlers, dogs, cats and birds scared.
• Apart from the above four points, the most important reason why we must celebrate a Green Diwali is to save the environment. It is usually around this season that the lowest layer of atmosphere is filled with smog, when smoke combines with fog. The condition is worst in metropolitan cities and urban hubs.
• Thus, celebrated green Diwali by: Refrain or limit the use of crackers. Limit the use of cheap plastic decorative items. Buy earthen lamps or diya and avoid using decorative electric lights as they too are made from cheap plastics and metal wires.
