Physics Workshops for Building a Better Tomorrow.

A two days conference at Chandigarh University, Gharuan, Mohali, Punjab, India on 7-8 June, 2019.

The inauguration session started with lamp lighting and Maa Sarswati Vandana. Prof. (Dr.) R.M. Bhagat, Executive Director Sciences welcomed all the delegates, and emphasized that Chandigarh University provides such platform to faculties and students to exchange their ideas and update themselves with current scenario in science.

Chief Guest Prof. (Dr.) R. K. Sinha, Director, CSIR-CSIO Chandigarh

The Audience was enlightened by the Chief Guest Prof. (Dr.) R. K. Sinha whose speech inspired us based on smarts material which is in high demand of modern society. His main emphasis was to develop materials related to fiber optics as well as sensors. He has further mentioned in his speech that research of any faculty should be transferred to students in the form of lecture.

Vote of Thanks was done by Prof. (Dr.) S.S. Sehgal, Executive Director (Engineering). He conveyed his sincere thanks to all dignitaries and participants attending the conference from across the country as well as from abroad. He specifically mentioned that Chandigarh University is thankful to Chief Guest Prof. Dr. R. K. Sinha, Director, CSIR-CSIO Chandigarh to spare his precious time to grace the conference as a Chief Guest.

Key Note Speaker- Dr. Suhshil Kumar Misra (Department of Physics, Concordia University, Canada)

He delivered his invited talk on materials synthesis related to piezoelectric, semiconductors, ferromagnetic, paramagnetic and many more. He emphasised that to study magnetic property of materials, EPR (Electron Paramagnetic Resonance) is an important tool. He is also interested to setup a Research Center based on Electron Paramagnetic Resonance studies at Chandigarh University to carry out research and innovation. He also emphasized that simulation is a good technique to predict the property of various materials applicable in biomedical, sensing and many more aspects.

Valedictory Address by Chief Guest: Prof. (Dr.) R. K. Kotnala (Ex-Chief Scientist, NPL Delhi)

His valedictory talk was based on the topic of “A true functional material based hydroelectric cell invention: A game changer in green energy arena- Alternative to solar cell and fuel cell”. This topic was of high importance due to its applicability to overcome the problem related to energy shortage for modern society. This talk showed how to generate green energy at low cost. The talk revealed that how electrolysis generates energy on the basis of dissociation of molecules in between two electrodes. He presented the application of magnesium ferrite, lithium-magnesium ferrite in hydroelectric cell to generate the energy. The uses of different oxides were presented such hematite, magnesium oxide, calcium oxide and many more in the generation of electricity. The discussion was also extended and covered the efforts carried out across the world to overcome the problems related to energy shortage through green energy routes. Researchers were surprised and happy to see his experimental work related to generation of electricity from neat water. It is an exceptional research and hope it will be a solution of electricity problem in near future. He also invited to new researchers to use facilities at NPL, Delhi to carry out quality research useful for society.
