World Pharmacist Day 2019 was celebrated on 25th September 2019. The theme of Pharmacist Day was “Safe and Effective Medicines for All”. On this occasion, poster making competition was organized in which students of B. Pharmacy, M. Pharmacy and Pharm D took part. Students prepared posters based on the theme of Pharmacist Day 2019. Another Quiz competition was organized within the department in which questions related to general awareness and health were asked. Team from B. Pharmacy Istsem got Ist prize. Dr R A Singh (Director, RDTL, Chandigarh) was invited as Chief Guest of the function. The function was graced with presence of Hon’ble Pro VC Sir. Cultural events were also organized in which dance, singing and bhangra were held. Dr R A Singh explained the role of regulations in pharmacy field. The role of CDSCO was also explained. Students also got information regarding quality maintenance of pharmaceuticals. The scope for pharmacists in RDTL was also explained by the guest. Students also interacted with speaker and got answers to queries. The event concluded by felicitation of Chief Guest and vote of thanks by Principal Sir.

Dr GS Pandey (Managing Director, Kopran Pharmaceuticals) was invited as expert for the lecture.Prof (Dr) Manish Goswami (Principal, UIPS) introduced the expert to the students of UIPS briefed his profile. Dr Pandey delivered an interactive lecture by involving students in the lecture. The need for regulating quality of pharmaceutical products was explained. Dr Pandey elaborated the role of USFDA and CDSCO in regulating quality of pharmaceutical products. Dr Pandey briefed the regulatory guidelines of ICH regarding pharmaceutical products. The concept of Quality by Design (QbD) and Quality Risk management (QRM) was explained to students in order to acquaint students with concepts that they will encounter practically in industries. After completion of the session, students asked many questions to the expert like reasons for recall of certain pharmaceuticals. The session concluded with vote of thanks by Dr Vimal Arora (HOD, UIPS).

Declamation Competition was organized as a club activity by UIPS department. The competition was organized as platform for facilitating an exchange of ideas among the student fraternity. The Declamation Contest was conducted for the students of the Senior B. Pharmacy, M.Pharmacy and Pharm. D. The topic for the competition was “Going abroad is the only option” or “Make in India really working.” The dynamic participants mesmerized the student audience with their vibrant oratory skills. They were made to present their views on diverse topics within the given time limit. They displayed confidence, enthusiasm and awareness while participating in the competition. Dr.PradeepGoyal, Ms.Payal Mittal and Ms.RitikaPuri were judges of the event. They congratulated and appreciated the efforts put in by the young, energetic, eloquent and persuasive orators.

Mr.Jyoti Saroop delivered expert talk on “Entrepreneurship”. He engaged students in interactive session quoting examples from Bollywood movies in order to motivate students to attain success in life. He explained his story of successfully setting up his start-up which today has turnover of over Rs 500 crores per year. Speaking on the topic, he explained how a small idea can lead to successful career as an entrepreneur. Mr Saroop discussed with the audience how he utilized natural resources of the lower Shiwaliksto become biggest producer of vinegar. Jaggery, Amla juice are some other famous products of the company as quoted by the speaker. He motivated the students to serve the homeland by developing entrepreneurship instead of going abroad.

He defined that anemia is a condition in which healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to the body’s tissues is reduced. He also highlights on Leukemia, it is a broad term for cancers of the blood cells. The type of leukemia depends on the type of blood cell that becomes cancer and whether it grows quickly or slowly.

Dr. Emmy Grewal, MBBS MD DM (Endocrinology) delivered a lecture to Pharmacy students on world diabetes Day. This lecture was focused on the diabetes and how further diabetes can be prevented. She also highlighted the diet and lifestyle to be followed in today’s busy schedule. Futher basal and bolus insulin dosing was explained and the conditions also which required oral drugs or insulin to contral blood sugar. She also answered the queries of students where in there were related to the dose of Metformin, Glimepride and Diabetes in young (MODY type).
