Project Display

Project is displayed during CAB meeting of Chandigarh University. In which Chandigarh University Investigatory club department of forensic science and toxicology participate on 16-17 Mar 2019 for showing project. This device is remote controllable (RC). Device is a portable device that contains rechargeable battery with solar panels. It contains real time GPS to track path way. This device is featured with laser light detector facilities. Night vision camera equipped with IR device for easy view of objects in dark. Device contains Signal sending unit which is remotely attached with monitor for receiving real time display. Monitor will be capable of different features such as GPS locations live pictures of night vision etc. The main feature of this device is advanced detonators. Where in their number varied according to the size. Detailed description of advanced detonator will be provided later on. There is an arm on the top of tank which is rotatable at 3600 angles through x-axis, foldable and remote controlled. This arm is capable of holding the objects with forceps shaped fingers to lift the detonator and place it at required site.

Workshop on Diatom:...

Examination for antemortem and postmortem drowing was organised by the Investigators club of department of forensic science and toxicology, Chandigarh University on 20 Mar 2017. A number of water bodies of Tricity were tested during workshop founded diatoms were shown to students. Students learn about extraction techniques and identificaion of Diatoms. A valuable information was delevered to student for examination and differentiate antemortem and postmortem drowning cases.

Workshop on Crime Scene Investigation

A Workshop cum competition on Crime scene investigation was organised by the Investigators club of department of forensic science and toxicology on 31 Oct 2018. The main aim of the workshop cum competition was to trigger the crime scene management skills of the forensic students. Four different crime scenes were improvised i.e. cyber -crime, hanging, murder 1 and Murder 2. The Four crime scenes with four levels were devised to cross each level to enter final level competition. It was quite interesting and learning experience for the students. Three student groups won the prizes.

Ballistic Museum,
Patiala

Students of M.Sc. Forensic science semester 4 visited Ballistics Museum at Patiala on 01 Mar 2019. During the visit, student observed the historical weapons used during the wars and for protection of themselves that included Guns, Rifles, tanks and shot guns. This visit has actually showed them the working of various old fashioned guns using different mechanisms of operating such as flint lock and paradox gun. During this visit, students learned a lot about the departed mechanisms of weapons and artillery used in previous era by the soldiers. This visit will be very useful to them in future during firearm examination and identifications.

Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur

Students visited to Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur for visiting state fingerprint bureau of Punjab and Ballistics Museum for a day long visit on 25 Oct 18. 3rd semester student which were about 50 in number were participated. At PPA, Phillaur students were demonstrated about different live cases of shooting of various crime scene and told about the examination of exhibits. Students also came to know about the working of finger print bureau in nabbing the criminals from the fingerprint evidence recovered from the crime scene. It was informative session and ended up in discussion with scientific officers at the academy.

CFSL, Chandigarh

Students of Department of Forensic Science and Toxicology got the opportunity to visiting Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Chandigarh,for a day long visit on 08 Feb 18. Student of 4thsemester which were about 60 in number were participated in activity. Thegroups were taken around to visit various research facilities like voice identification unit, toxicology lab, explosive lab and ballistics laboratory at CFSL Chandigarh and they also interacted with scientists of various divisions. The Students discussed various aspects of voice identification software withDr. Shweta, Head voice identification and acoustic sciences and got to know about recent advancements in the field of forensic science.

SFSL, Mohali

Students Of Department Of Forensic Science And Toxicology Got The Opportunity to visiting State Forensic Science Laboratory, Mohali, for a day long visit on 08 Feb 16. 3rd semester student which were about 60 in number participated in this. The Punjab State Forensic Science Laboratory was sanctioned by the Government of Punjab in the year 1976 but it started functioning on scientific examination of clue material received from various types of crime scenes to link the suspect with the crime from the year 1981. It was situated at Phase-IV, S.A.S. Nagar, Punjab. Lately, students of Forensic Science Department, Chandigarh University, Gharuan, Mohali got an opportunity to visit the Punjab state laboratory, Mohali. After reaching, Director of Punjab FSL, Dr. Seema Sharda interacted with the students about the types of cases received in different divisions for analysis from different areas of Punjab. Students visited eight divisions of laboratory headed by Assistant Directors, that were, ballistics, Physics, Documents, Toxicology, Serology, Chemistry, Biology and Photography. They all explained the cases received in their respective divisions and showed live examination of cases in divisions of documents, physics, toxicology, chemistry, ballistic etc.

MDRL

Students of Department of Forensic Science and Toxicology got the opportunity to visiting MDRL, Chandigarh for a day long visit on 05 Feb 16. 4rd semester student which were about 60 in number participated in this. Molecular Diagnostics and Research Laboratories (MDRL), Chandigarh gave introduction of Molecular Biology to the students of M.Sc. Forensic Science. His work includes detection of mutated DNA of cancer patients, paternity/ maternity disputes and disease detection. He also performed drug selection, sensitivity and resistance in cancerous patients. MDRL was using modified and advanced PCR technique for the visualisation of mutated DNA of cancerous cells on real time. He also successfully experimented with “Herceprin” antibody therapy for breast cancer patients and got positive results in number of breast cancer patients. Dr.ShetMasih explained students about new developments and techniques applied in DNA analysis. Further, he also introduced tothe students about the forensic application of DNA technology and procedures used in various latest disputed cases handled at their laboratory. The students were also made aware about scope of DNA technology and the upcoming demand is today’s world.

Dr. O. P. Jasuja ex-professor and head department of forensic science at Punjabi university, Patiala, gives his expert talk on the topic” Fingerprint and Personal Identification” on 7 Mar-2018. He explained about the types, classification and role of fingerprint evidence in crime case investigations. He quoted the case studies where fingerprint evidences plays crucial and important role in linking suspect to the crime scene. All the students and teachers were made enlightened with recent developments happening in this area w.r.t. Software development and technology.

Dr. G.S. Sodhi, is Professor in GTB Khalsa College, Delhi offered an expert talk on the topic of “Crime Scene Management” on 24-Feb 2017. He Explained to the students of M.Sc. Forensic Science and Toxicology after delivering a small presentation titled “Crime Scene Management: Role of First Respondent”. From the presentation, students came to know about the duties and responsibilities of a investigating officer first reaching at the crime scene. The actual crime case studies such as Arson, murders that happened in the different areas of Delhi were presented and different leads that facilitate to solve the crime were discussed. From the interaction students came to know the importance of securing and safeguarding a crime scene.

Dr. Mukesh Thakkar Professor and of forensic science at Punjabi university, Patiala, gives his expert talk on the topic” Forensic Photography” on 4 Feb-2016. He explained about Digital Evidence: The identification, preservation and analysis of the digital crime scene and the presentation of those results as evidence. The Digital Evidence Unit examines seized evidence from a range of devices including computers, mobile devices, vehicles, video analysis, credit card skimmers, and non-traditional unidentified digital media. The DEU also examines the digital landscape for cases involving malware, unauthorized network intrusions, and data breaches. DEU supports numerous agencies in the District of Columbia justice system, including the Metropolitan Police Department, United States Attorney’s Office and United States Capitol Police. The students found the lecture informative, interesting and knowledge based.

ISR Activities

A camp was organized at Gharuan village. 20 students from Forensic Science and Toxicology Division participated in the camp on 14 March, 2019. The moto to the camp was to aware people to stop spreading pollution and save earth. Villagers were enlightened about the how to prevent pollution like not to use plastic and polybags, not to use vehicle which are expired, not to use insecticide and pesticide go for organic crops, not to through waste in water bodies. Villages found this activity full of knowledge.

ISR Activities

Department of Forensic Science and Toxicology (UIAHS) organized one day ISR activity entitled as Awareness about child abuse on 8th March, 2018 at the JyotiSwaroopKanya Ashram, Gharuan. The emphasis of this ISR activity waste enlighten the girls of JyotiSwaroopKanya Ashram towards child abuse, which may occur in schools, colleges, hostels, inhabited care facilities, on the roads, and in places of custody and localities. Simultaneously, the children were awakened about small preventive measures to safeguard their own self. The girls made aware about Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, Pasco act and various helpline numbers Chandigarh central police – 2773951, Women and child helpline - 1091 and 2705011, Childline India foundation – 1098, Emergency number – 100.

ISR Activities

A camp was organized for Orphan Children at Kharar, on 25-Apr-2017. 15students from M.Sc Forensic Science and Toxicology participated in the campStudents of Govt. School Batta, Mohali were given awareness lectures on the forensic science and its applications in different fields. Student were aware about the crime and nature of crime like cyber and mobile crime. Suggestions were give regarding protecting of ourselves from cyber-crimes. Student of the school found the camp interesting and full of knowledge.

A camp was organized for Orphan Children at Kharar, on 14-Nov-2016. 20 students from M.Sc Forensic Science and Toxicology participated in the camp Specific inputs are necessary to enhance the self-esteem and self-confidence to familiarize adolescence girl child with the status and problems related to women. 20 students from M.Sc Forensic Science and Toxicology participated equally in discussion and orientation on health, hygiene, menstruation and related physiological knowledge.

ISR Activities

A camp was organized for Orphan Children at Kharar, on 20-Aug-2015. 15 students from M.Sc Forensic Science and Toxicology participated in the camp. Students have done various activities such as dance, music, painting etc. to encourage their confidence. Students participated in medical camp where they have done estimation of hemoglobin test & identification of blood group for about 110 children. Peoples at the village encourage for the blood donation for saving life.

Dr. Jagmahender Singh Sehrawat, Assistant Professor, Department of Anthropology, Panjab University, Chandigarh delivered expert talk on “Aspects of Forensic Anthropology and Research Ethics”. He shared about human evolution on the basis of development, nutrition and geographical areas. He demonstrated and displayed various findings of Ajnala personal identification project case study.
