Chandigarh University houses various multifaceted Industrial Labs that gives our students an exclusive opportunity to learn on industry tools. It bridges the gap between Academia and Industry and enriches the real-time temperament of the students.

Mechanical Engineering Labs at Chandigarh University, India

Flexible Manufacturing Lab

In the Flexible Manufacturing Lab, students learn fundamental concepts of industrial automation and flexible manufacturing. The lab has Vertical Milling Center, Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) Lathe, Robo Arm, ASRS, AGV and a flexible manufacturing cell to foster the hands-on learning of the students.

Mahindra & Mahindra Lab

Mahindra & Mahindra T- School is an industrial collaborated lab with Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd that was set up in 2014. The lab is equipped with modern automotive tools & equipment including the Cut section of Mahindra Jeep, Mahindra M-Hawk turbo charged engine, Gypsy 4x4 engine and more. The workshops have been organized in the lab providing handy facilities for students to make their own sophisticated projects.lanes.

Mechanical Engineering Labs at Chandigarh University, Punjab

Honda Professional Automotive Training And Research Centre

Chandigarh University inked an MoU with Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Ltd in 2018. This one-of-its-kind lab is equipped with modern automotive technologies like 4 Honda bikes, 3 Honda Scooty(s) and all kinds of servicing equipment. Offering hands-on experience is the prime objective of this in-house training and research center.

Vehicle Maintenance & Diagnostics Lab

Vehicle Maintenance and Diagnostics Lab was set up in 2016 by the university itself. This lab facilitates the Study of Constructional Details, Working Principles and Operation of the Automotive Clutches, Automotive Transmission Systems, Automotive Drive Lines & Differentials, and Multi-Cylinder: Diesel and Petrol Engines.

Major Equipments: Two Post Lift, Wheel Aligner and Wheel Balancing Machine, Servicing Tools, Engine Diagnostics and Servicing System.

Applied Thermodynamics Labs

The Applied Thermodynamics lab provides an opportunity for the students to study the different types of IC engines, compressors, condensers. Working in the lab makes the students understand and evaluate the efficiency, power and performance of the IC engines, compressors and condensers based on parameters such as compression ratio, volume of air intake, specific fuel consumption, and heat extraction.

Equipments: Four Stroke Petrol Engine with Hydraulic Dynamometer, Four Stroke Diesel Engine with Electric Dynamometer, Experimental Water cooling Tower, Condensers, Double Stage Reciprocating Compressor, VCR Engine, etc.

Fluid Machinery Lab

The objective of the lab is to make the students understand the concepts of fluid machinery and analyze the performance characteristics of different hydraulic systems like (Pelton wheel, Kaplan, Francis) turbines, centrifugal pump, centrifugal blower, Hydraulic ram with the help of test rigs.

Equipments: Centrifugal Pump, Reciprocating Pump, Hydraulic RAM, Pelton Turbine Test Rig, Francis Turbine Test Rig, Kaplan Turbine test Rig, CF Blower test Rig, etc.

Mechanical Measurement & Control Lab

The mechanical measurement and control lab is equipped with various measuring instruments, gauges and measuring machines. It makes students understand the basic principles involved in measuring process that suits the respective product and its importance in the quality control. The students learn the calibration of various measuring instruments like sine bar, surface roughness tester, profile projector, toolmaker microscope and stroboscope and find the errors involved in it and measure the angle, surface roughness, profiles and speed measurements of the products.

Equipments: Tool Maker Microscope, Calibration of Thermocouple, Dead Weight Pressure Gauge Testor, Depth Gauge and Dial Indicator, Electronic gear Tooth Vernier Caliper, etc

Heat Transfer Lab

The Heat Transfer Laboratory focuses to develop the concrete understanding of heat transfer with the help of practical aspects of different modes (conduction, convection and radiation) of heat transfer and to formulate the heat transfer analysis for a given engineering problems by applying the appropriate equations and/or correlations.

Equipments: Stephan Boltzmann Apparatus, Lagged Pipe Apparatus, Parallel flow, Counter Flow Heat Exchangers, Plate type Heat Exchangers, Shell & Tube Exchangers, Emissivity Measurement Apparatus, Thermal Conductivity Apparatus, Heat Pipe Demonstrator, etc.

Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Lab

The purpose of this lab is to impart the basic knowledge of refrigeration and air conditioning principles and procedures. Students are exposed to the various testing rigs and are encouraged to calculate and estimate the coefficient of performance and efficiency of various cooling systems such as refrigerators, ice plants and domestic air conditioners.

Equipments: Year Round Air Conditioning Test Rig, Window Type Air Conditioner Test Rig, Electrolux Refrigerator Test Rig, Ice Plant Test Rig, Vapour Compression Refrigeration Trainer, Water Cooler Test Rig, Domestic Refrigerator with Digital Control, Cut Sectional Control Board of RAC Controls, etc.

Strength of Material Lab

The objective of the lab is to impart the basic knowledge about materials subjected to various kinds of loading and procedures to check the strength. Students are exposed to the various testing equipment for checking the strength during torsion, impact loading, Tensile loading, compressive loading, fatigue loading, etc.

Equipments: Universal Testing Machine, Spring Testing Machine, Fatigue Testing Machine, Torsion Testing Machine, Torsion Testing Machine, Hardness Tester, Impact Testing Machine, etc.

Fluid Mechanics Lab

The objective of the lab is to make the students understand the application and principles of fluid mechanics. The students are encouraged to operate the experimental test rigs to know the operational procedures and to calculate the discharge coefficient, minor losses and Reynold’s number for fluid flow through the pipe.

Equipments: Bernoulli’s Theorem Apparatus, Flow over Notches Apparatus, Loss in Pipe Fitting Apparatus, Pitot Tube Apparatus, Metacentric Height Apparatus, Reynold’s Apparatus, Flow Measurement Venturimeter and Orificemeter Apparatus, Forced Vortex Apparatus, Pressure Measurement Device, etc.

Mechanical Vibration Lab

This lab provides the opportunity to learn the types of vibrations and analyze the concepts of vibrations in various vibrating systems such as a spring-mass system, rotor, rolling element by having a measurement of frequency, amplitude, velocity, and acceleration.

Equipments: Universal Vibration Apparatus

Automobile Engineering Lab

The lab provides an opportunity to learn the concepts and principles of working the components of automobiles such as a suspension system, purpose of differential, parts of the steering assembly, types of braking systems, parts of engines and valve timing and various fuel injection systems.

Equipments: Mahindra & Mahindra Jeep, Maruti Suzuki 800 Car, Model of Cooling System, Lubricating System, Multiple Clutch, Steering System, Gear Box, Electronic & Electrical Ignition System, Actual Cut-section Differential Assembly, Rear Axle Assembly, Radiator, HVAC, Suspensions, Dampers, Diesel Engine with Turbo, CRD 4 cylinder Engine, Catalytic Converter, etc.

Theory of Machines Lab

The objective of this lab to learn the fundamentals of various laws governing rigid bodies & their motion and to underline principle of governors, power transmission and balancing. Working in the lab makes the students to learn about the rigid bodies motions and forces for the transmission systems, machine kinematics and dynamics.

Equipments: Epicyclic Gear Train, Motorized Governor Apparatus, Static & Dynamic Balancing Apparatus, Whirling of shaft, Journal bearing Apparatus, Gyroscope Apparatus, Cam Analysis Apparatus and Flat & V belt friction apparatus.

CAD Lab

The main purpose of this lab is to enhance the knowledge of a Mechanical Engineer to learn 2D and 3D drafting using the latest version of various softwares. Students will also gain the knowledge of design and drafting needed to visualize the various parts of machines and practically apply it to the real world.

Equipments: Solid works, AutoCAD, Ansys.

The objective of the centre is to become one of the leading research and education centres in the area of thermal energy. The human resource development is done through training, M.Tech. and Ph.D. research-based work. It also facilitates to conduct high quality research driven by industry and society needs that generates new knowledge, innovations, discoveries and affordable engineering solutions.
